Work in the Wild
Last year GREENinc finished supervising the landscape work at a private bush lodge at Elephant Point. The lodge is a beautiful rammed earth structure designed by Nicholas Plewman Architects with interior design by Paris-based Studio Asai. The landscape is subtle and restrained. Using locally indigenous plants only, mainly large container-grown trees and carefully-selected grasses but also some bulbs and flowering plants, it allows the lodge to nestle comfortably into the surrounding bushveld. We designed polished concrete steps to the front door to match the interior floors. The driveway and pathways are sand for low impact, visually and environmentally.
During the course of the year we also started working on three projects for the Department of Tourism at Orange River mouth, Hole in the Wall and the Harold Johnson Nature Reserve near the Tugela River mouth; an extensive riverfront development at Kasane in Botswana and another lodge upgrade at Elephant Point. 2022 really turned into a wonderful tourism and recreation project year for us with projects in some beautiful natural environments. At the beginning of this year we welcomed Charlotte Swart to our Durban studio, and Conrad Venter returned full-time after taking time off to further his studies.
